What is Podiatry?
Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have undergone a 3 year medical degree in order to assess, diagnose and treat a variety of different foot and lower limb conditions. A podiatrist can also correct foot abnormalities, treat infections and ultimately seek to maintain a patient’s quality of life.

Is there a difference between Chiropody and Podiatry?
There is no difference, podiatry/podiatrist is considered to be the modern term.

What do they treat?
A podiatrist can treat everyday foot conditions which include;
• Toenail Problems; damaged, thickened, fungal or ingrowing nails
• Corns and calluses
• Verrucas

When to visit a podiatrist?
A patient may consider visiting a chiropodist/podiatrist when they are experiencing pain or unusual ailments associated with the feet. Patients can visit the podiatrist if they are finding it challenging to cut toenails and preserve foot care. Diabetic patients should attend regular appointments due to diabetes involvement in foot health. Regular attendance ensures patients feet are monitored for any changes that occur and reduce the risk of any problems arising. Podiatrists can supply orthotics/insoles which are customised to the individual to combat heel/arch pain, poor foot alignment and sports injuries. This area of podiatric medicine is known as Musculoskeletal Podiatry and involves in-depth analysis of joint range of motion, posture, muscle strength and gait analysis.

How do you know if the Podiatrist is Qualified?
